At Lutzville Vineyards we are fortunate to have a fully equipped laboratory on our premises. For the team, led by lab manager Ida Carstens, it is of utmost importance to stay focused in their daily routine with attention to detail. The excellence that they aim for has recently been recognized by the South African Wine Laboratories Association (SAWLA). SAWLA Proficiency Scheme hosted its general meeting and awards ceremony at Vredenheim Wine Estate on the 3rd of December 2021. Ida represented Lutzville Vineyards and walked away with the first prize for the most proficient laboratory of the year.

SAWLA has a membership of 46 of the best wine laboratories in the country. Every month these labs compete with one another by analyzing two homogenous wine samples. Accuracy and repeatability are the key components in this competition and a first-place truly shows constant accuracy, repeatability, and dedication to the work.

“This SAWLA award is an immense honor,” says Ida. “We competed with some of South Africa’s most prestigious wine labs that have expensive equipment and large teams.”

As a cellar, we would like to congratulate the entire team on this outstanding achievement. Well done and keep up the excellent work!
